At the end of the 1980s producers of cast steel shots and grits due to continuous fluctuations in scrap surcharge price decided, even at the request of their customers, to separate the cost of the scrap surcharge component from the commercial price of the abrasive. They linked it to the surveys carried out by third parties on international markets.
Since then, the price of cast steel shots and grits is composed of a base price, defined by the customer / supplier commercial negotiation, and a monthly scrap surcharge adjustment component based on the trend in scrap price on international markets, calculated on the surveys of the month preceding the supply of abrasive.
Consequently, the price of the scrap surcharge is updated monthly and communicated upon customer’s request.
